Refinishing and sanding your hardwood floors is necessary to preserve their quality and beauty. Any sanding and refinishing is done solely to enhance the wood’s natural color and protect it from the elements. The best time to sand and refinish your hardwood floors is when you move into a new house or apartment as all of the furniture, rugs, etc. need to be removed from the area during the process. Proper refinishing should last about 10 years. However, high traffic rooms will need to be done more often. But the two types of floors. Over time, however, hardwood floors gradually lose their shine. If your hardwood floor has seen better days, and you're contemplating taking out the entire flooring and replacing it with a new one, pause for a moment.
Hardwood floors can be revived by sanding and refinishing. They aren't like other items in the house that should be entirely thrown out and replaced if one or a few parts stop working or become damaged. Most of the time, polishing hardwood floors is the best way to bring back their shine and elegance. Polishing is often enough to make these floors look like how they were the first day they were installed.
Sanding the floors means that we sand all of the finish and stain off of the existing floor, sand the floor flat, and remove approximately 1/32" of wood. All the first cut on the floor is what we refer to as the "rough cut". The rough cut must be done with the drum or belt before the edger can finish the edges. Once the edges are done and fined off, the drum or belt can do its final sanding. Most 3/4" hardwood floors could be sanded up to 6 times. The main goal of these machines is to sand the old finish off and leave the floor flat. Hardwood floors should last 100-150 years, making hardwood floors the longest lasting value for the home that can be purchased if cared for by a professional team.
Our sanding and refinishing process starts with either a drum or belt sander for the middle of the floor, a circular (edger) sander for the edges, hand scrapers for corners, and the final is the finer sanding by a buffer with a screen. We meet or exceed national standards set forth in the guidelines by the National Wood Flooring Association. Our comprehensive hardwood flooring services include installation, sanding and refinishing, as well as restoration work.
